For example, if trains had not been built stretching to the west it would have made it more difficult for people to colonize the west coast. No matter where trains are seen, they inspire wanderlust in children and adults. Trains offer luxury and conveyance in a relaxed and scenic style. It’s difficult not to fall in love with a ride aboard an old-fashioned steam train barreling down a winding track traversing rivers, mountain paths or long stretches of prairie. One of the most picturesque trains was known as the “Super Chief”. It’s paint scheme was bright red and the face of the engine bore a gold warrior bonnet.

It’s legendary and fades in the distance like a finely tuned musical score. That’s how some describe the sound of a train whistle. Whether it’s a passenger or freight train, the minute the whistle blows, it’s a memorable refrain. For those living near a train line, it’s a timepiece of sorts. Farmers working out in the fields tell the time of day by the sound of the whistle of passing trains. Nothing fascinates children more than the sound of a train whistle.
